Stripe Reverse Invoice
You want to keep a target amount. How much should you charge so fees don’t eat the difference?
Default fees mirror published Stripe US standard online card pricing (2.9% + $0.30). Source: stripe.com/pricing. Not affiliated with Stripe.
Formula
charge = (targetNet + fixed) ÷ (1 − percent)
fee = charge × percent + fixed
net = charge − fee
FAQ
Why not just add 2.9% on top?
The percent fee is charged on the gross. Adding 2.9% to your target under-compensates. The reverse formula fixes percent and fixed fee.
Can I use this for PayPal?
Yes — change percent and fixed, or use the PayPal fee tool.
Does cent rounding matter?
Yes on small invoices. We round to cents the way card processors typically do; confirm the charge in Stripe before sending.
Is this tax or legal advice?
No. Independent fee math only — not affiliated with Stripe.
